EFFCA & IPA EU: The New Genomic Techniques
The European Food and Fermentation Cultures Association (EFFCA) and the International Probiotics Association (IPA EU) have released a paper supporting the modernization of European GMO legislation. We believe that New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) are essential for advancing food microbial cultures and achieving the EU Green Deal's ambitious sustainability targets. These techniques allow for precise DNA modifications, enhancing food safety, sustainability, and nutritional value without introducing foreign genetic material. We call for a product-centric regulatory approach that evaluates the properties and safety of the modified organisms, ensuring the EU food industry remains competitive and innovative.
